If there is one work that opened a whole new world for Juan Manuel Cañizares that was the ‘Concierto de Aranjuez, which his mentor Paco de Lucíaused to play in the dressing room. This was in 1991, and since then, Cañizares has obsessed over this piece and Rodrigo…
Over time, Cañizares achieved such mastery with this piece that, twenty years later, he was invited by Simon Rattle to play it with what is considered to be the world’s best orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic. To date, Ca
ñizares remains the only flamenco artist to have been invited to play with this orchestra.

Córdoba, Tribute to Joaquín Rodrigo
All three movements struck this magical balance between the sonority of the classics and the expressivity of flamenco, especially the central Adagio, where he explores the emotional dimension of the slow genres with a touch of tango, a mix that fills listeners with serenity, transporting them by its deliberate internal rhythm.

Aranjuez ma penséeis the transcription for piano that the master made of his famous adagio in 1968. Cañizares has added ‘a few complements, like a tremolo, in order to generate something closer to the orchestral version’, and the result is indeed magnificent.
